Kyoto Tango Railway Pompompurin Collaboration – Explore Tango with Team Purin

Pompompurin on the first day of operation of the themed train (Miyazu Station, Miyazu City)

A “Pompompurin” train, decorated with images of the popular Sanrio character, is running on the Kyoto Tango Railway (Miyamai & Miyatoyo Lines), which operates in Kyotango and surrounding parts of Northern Kyoto Prefecture. The train is in operation this autumn, decorated with the adorable characters alongside Japan’s Top 3 Scenic View Amanohashidate (Miyazu City), the Red Brick Warehouses (Maizuru City) and other famous sightseeing spots found along the train line. On October 26th, Pompompurin made an appearance at Miyazu Station (Miyazu City) to kick off the first day and was greeted by parents and children taking pictures to commemorate the day and sending off the first train. The themed train will be in operation until January 25th.

The ”Pompompurin” collaboration is part of a project to commemorate 100 years since the Miyazu Line of the former National Railway opened. There are 4 to 6 themed trains a day running between Nishi-Maizuru Station and Toyooka Station (Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture), passing through Kyotango City. Timetables can be found on the Kyoto Tango Railway website.

This train wrapping design shows Pompompurin with Muffin and other fun-loving members of Team Purin making the most of the scenery and food of the picturesque Tango region and its bountiful nature. Passengers are urged to get on board and enjoy “Day out with Pompompurin! Exciting Pass” Day Tickets with special bonus perks, original merchandise goods and more on sale, as well as character themed panels and posters set up in some of the stations and related facilities.
