Guinness World Record! The Home of the World’s Oldest Man

Jiroemon Kimura
(1897-2013, aged 116)
“Eat small and live long” was the key to Kimura’s longevity.
Kimura never missed a meal, kept his portions small and devoted himself to agriculture until he was 90.
In 2011, he was certified as the Guinness World Record World’s Oldest Man and that record still has yet to be broken.
What is the secret to health and longevity?
Kyotango is a city rich in nature, blessed with diverse climates, where summers are hot and winters are snowy. Since the old days, the people of Kyotango have lived active lives keeping busy with fishing and farming, connecting with nature and eating healthy amounts of locally grown seasonal ingredients. It is thought that one can live a healthy long life by following these healthy eating habits and living this somewhat inconvenient, far from the city, but active lifestyle reminiscent of ancient times.

Kyotango City Tourism Association created the Kyotango Health Tourism Programs in collaboration with local businesses under the instruction of the Japan Health Tourism Organization and in 2020, earned the first ever Health Tourism Certification in Kyoto Prefecture.
There are a variety of programs to choose from such as the Healing the Mind and Body & Learning the Secrets of Longevity Program or the 80 km Geotrail Program which follows 8 walking courses along the coastline and traverses the natural scenery of the UNESCO Global Geopark.
