Calling all Cat Lovers! This September experience the Guardian Cat festival in Mineyama

Mineyama’s annual Komaneko Matsuri (Guardian Cat festival) is not to be missed if you are a fan of our feline friends.

Based in Mineyama-cho, the centre of Tango Chirimen Silk production, this festival unites the people of Tango with the local “guardian cats”. The cats, historically, have protected the valuable silkworms from mice, earning their title as guardians.

Mineyama Station

This year marks 100 years since Mineyama Train Station opened for business.

In a time when the Tango Chirimen silk industry was booming, there was strong demand for a rail road that could expedite the shipping process.

In response to this need, the opening of the station brought on large scale festivities and in the station you can see pictures from the celebration.

There is also a remodelling of a handloom in the station building.
