Calling all Cat Lovers! This September experience the Guardian Cat festival in Mineyama

Mineyama’s annual Komaneko Matsuri (Guardian Cat festival) is not to be missed if you are a fan of our feline friends.

Based in Mineyama-cho, the centre of Tango Chirimen Silk production, this festival unites the people of Tango with the local “guardian cats”. The cats, historically, have protected the silkworms from mice, earning their title as guardians.

Sunday 22nd September marks the main event of the festival and “Konpira Hand-Made Market” will be open selling various accessories, magazines and cute cat-shaped trinkets!

You will have the chance to take part in cat-themed painting and ceramics workshops.

Don’t miss the chance to see the festival’s own limited edition Komaneko Matsuri omamori (good luck charm) or the Tango Chirimen and “Neko no me (cat’s eyes)” exhibitions.

Mineyama High School Tea Ceremony Club will serving tea, and there will be food trucks on site so hunger doesn’t get in the way of the fun!
