Learn about the delicate silk fabric used in the finest kimonos in its birthplace, with a history going back over 300 years.
On the factory tour you will have a chance to see first-hand how the silk is made, and learn the secrets that make it so special. After the factory tour a professional kimono dresser will help you into an exquisite kimono while explaing the different parts of the kimono, and some of it's long history.
Wearing your kimono you will have a chance for photographs with stunning backgrounds. Then, while dressed in your kimono, enjoy a deep cultural experience.

Tayuh Textile Factory

The guide will tell you about the secrets of chirimen silk, explaining how it's made and what makes it so special. After, you will get a tour of a working factory and see first hand how it's made.

Wear a Kimono

After the tour you will get to choose a kimono and the professional kimono dresser will help you put it on while explaining different parts of the kimono and some of it's long history.

Photo Time

Looking radiant in your kimono you can pose for pictures in the delicatley appointed parlour at Tayuh Textiles, or in their Japanese rock garden (weather permitting).

Cultural Experience

While wearing your kimono you will be able to enjoy a cultural experience to deepen your understanding of Japanese culure. Available experiences will vary depending on instructors availablity but will include one of: furoshiki wrapping, chirimen silk post card making, or a tea ceremony.

1 We'll pick you up either at Amino train station, or your hotel (within 2 km of Tayuh Textiles).

4 Take stunning pictures in a Japanese Garden (optional: a professional photographer can take the pictures for an extra fee).
5 Take part in a cultural activity to deepen your understanding of traditional Japanese arts. (Activities will vary depending on instructors but will include one of: furoshiki wrapping, chirimen silk post card making, or a tea ceremony)
6 We'll drop you off at Amino train station or at your hotel (within 2 km of Tayuh Textiles)

To complete your booking we will need the following details:
1 Desired pick up and drop off locations
2 Height (cm), shoe size (cm), prefered kimono color.
(This information will only be used for selecting your kimono. measurements are prefered in cm. If you use a different measurement please state it clearly, ie. shoe size: 6 (ladies US). Depending on availablility we may not be able offer your prefered color.)

1 This tour is only available on weekdays.

5 Children under the age of 3 can be brought along for no extra charge but they will not be able to wear a kimono, receive a free gift at the silk factory or participate in the cultural activity independently.
6 If a child is age 12 or younger but they are taller than 150cm they will be charged as an adult, this is because the kimono is classed as an adult kimono based on size, patterns, cleaning etc.

7 Cancellations made 3 days before to the day before will be responsible for 50% of the tour fee. Cancellations made after 4:00pm JST will be treated as arriving the next day.
The following conditions may also be treated as arriving the next day:
1 Cancellation requests made when the activities are closed (usually, but not limited to, weekends).
2 Cancellation requests made when Kyotango Tourism Association is closed (usually, but not limited to, Sundays).
In the event that payment has not been received by 3 days before your requested date, the tour will automatically be cancelled.

Terms and Conditions
(Objective)

Article 1

Kyotango City Tourism Association under Destination Management/ Marketing Organization, Kyoto by the Sea DMO (hereafter referred to as the ‘Tourism Association’) shall assign Experience Interpreters (hereafter referred to as ‘Interpreters’) to experience and activity facilities in Kyotango City on the basis of these Terms and Conditions.

(Requesting this Service)

Article 2

Those who wish to use this service while taking part in experiences and activities in Kyotango City (hereafter referred to as ‘Experience Participants’) must agree to these terms and conditions before requesting Interpreting services.

(About this Service)

Article 3

Experience participants must understand and comply with the following:

  1. Should there not be a suitable Interpreter for the Experience Participant’s needs, assignment may not be possible.
  2. Interpreters cannot be chosen or specified by the Experience Participant.
  3. In the case of highly specialized experience contents, a complete and exact interpretation of the original language used may not be possible.
  4. The Experience Participant is responsible for making their own decisions regarding the contents of the interpretation.
  5. The Interpreting working hours are between 09:00-17:00 and shall not exceed 6 hours per day. However, should there be a reason deemed unavoidable, said time limit is lifted.
(Service Fees and Payment)

Article 4

  1. The Experience Participant shall pay the Interpreter the service fee depending on the duration as below:

  2. The Interpreting duration is counted from when the Experience Participant and the Interpreter meet, until they disband. Periods of less than an hour will be rounded up to the nearest hour.
  3. Should the Interpreting end up exceeding the originally requested duration, the Experience Participant will need to pay 3,000 yen for each additional hour, payable to the Interpreter.
  4. The service fee shall be paid by the Experience Participant directly to the Interpreter on the day and the Tourism Association shall not be involved.
  5. Payment shall be made in exact cash and change will not be provided.
(Cancellation Fees)

Article 5

  1. Should the Experience Participant exceed the meeting time by 30 minutes or more, or cancel the experience, a cancellation fee must be paid to the Interpreter.
  2. The cancellation fees are as follows:

    2 days before 30% of total cost at booking
    1 day before 50% of total cost at booking
    Same day 100% of total cost at booking
  3. Cancellations requests made when the Tourism Association is closed will be treated as being made the next working day. If the experience is planned for the day after the Tourism Association is closed and a cancellation is received during closure, it will be treated as a same day cancellation.
  4. The Interpreter shall request and receive the cancellation fee directly from the Experience Participant and the Tourism Association shall not be involved.
(Prohibited Matters)

Article 6

The Experience Participant shall not engage in the following acts towards the Interpreter:

  3. Making the Interpreter do work other than interpreting
(Disclaimer)

Article 7

The Tourism Association shall not be held liable for any loss or damage caused to the Experience Participant or any third party as a result of the interpretation. This excludes loss or damage arising from misconduct or negligence from the Tourism Association.

(Duty of Confidentiality)

Article 8

The Tourism Association shall strictly manage information gained through the operation of this service and shall not use it for objectives outside those mentioned in Article 1.

(Miscellaneous)

Article 9

Matters deemed necessary for the operation of this service outside those mentioned in these terms and conditions shall be determined separately.
