Otome Jinja Shrine

Otome Jinja can be found at the foot of Mt. Isanago in Mineyama and is associated with the Legend of Hagoromo. The legend has many retellings but tells the tale of a Tennyo (heavenly woman) who decends to earth and has her hagoromo (feather cloak) stolen.

The Legend of Hagoromo at Otome Jinja says that the Tennyo meets a local hunter, who hides her feather cloak and they fall in love and have three beautiful daughters. One day, the Tennyo finds her feather cloak and decides to return to heaven, leaving her daughters behind. It is said that every year on July 7th, she returns to earth to visit the hunter and her three daughters.

One of her daughters is enshrined at Otome Jinja and it is said if you go to pray there, you will be blessed with a beautiful daughter.
