Omiyame Jinja Shrine

Omiyame Jinja Shrine, located in Omiya, is characterised by its ~150m approach stretching from the first Torii shrine gate to the main shrine building, which is lined with stone lanterns and pine trees.

The shrine grounds are designated by Kyoto Prefecture as a Historic Ritual Site, and thought to have evolved from an ancient ritual site into a shrine. Various artifacts have been unearthed on the premesis dating from the Yayoi peiod (300 BC – 300 AD) through the Heian period (794 – 1185 AD), and the shrine has maintained its historic appearance. Two of the stone lanterns, which currently stand in front of the main hall, are deemed to be National Important Cultural Properties.

The Omiyame Jinja Autumn Festival is dedicated to traditional performing arts such as Kagura (Lion dance), Tachifuri (sword performance), Sasabayashi (drumming) and Sanbaso (traditional performance). These rites performed each year at the festival are recognised as registered Intangible Folk Cultural Assets by the Kyoto prefectural government.
