Sennichie Summer Festival – 2026 –
The “Sennichie Summer Festival,” a summer tradition, will be held in Kumihama-cho, Kyotango City, Kyoto Prefecture.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the festival.
Approximately 3,000 lanterns will float enchantingly across Kumihama Bay, and the “Daimonji” character will be illuminated on the slopes of Mount Kabuto.
In addition, approximately 1,500 fireworks will light up the summer night sky.
At Nyoi-ji Temple, the Sennichie Buddhist service (Main Hall) and the Sennichie Goma fire ritual (Fudo Hall) will also be held.
Please enjoy a magical summer experience woven from Kumihama’s history, traditions, and beautiful scenery.
■Program
5:00 PM: Commemorative lantern registration (Kumihama Park Information Center; 500 yen per lantern)
7:30 PM: Lantern floating ceremony (approx. 3,000 lanterns)
7:30 PM: Illumination of the “Daimonji” character on the slopes of Kabuto Mountain
7:30 PM–: Fireworks display (approx. 1,500 fireworks)
8:30 PM: Scheduled end
*At Nyoi-ji Temple, the “Sennichie Memorial Service” and “Sennichie Goma Ritual” will be held starting at 7:00 PM.
