The largest Jizo statue in Kyoto gets its winter coat!
Every November 23rd, locals in Kyotango dress Heiji Jizo—Kyoto’s tallest stone guardian deity—in a straw hood and coat weighing 60kg. A unique tradition that marks the arrival of winter.
Nearby, a local farmer’s market sells locally grown fruits and vegetables, and also original drip coffee with a Heiji Jizo illustration, which is a perfect souvenir to take home.
